Updated role of inhaled corticosteroids

Evidence for benefit from inhaled corticosteroids in the management of COPD is finally catching up with clinical practice.

A recent meta-analysis published in the November edition of Thorax showed that two years of treatment with inhaled corticosteroids can slow the rate of decline in lung function.

Lung health audit reveals COPD dilemma

Disturbing results from an audit of lung health in general practice patients suggest COPD continues to be under-recognised and under-treated.

Responses from about 4500 patients from general practices in Queensland and South Australia revealed a mismatch between reported symptoms and diagnoses.

Call for input on revision of COPDX guidelines

They might only be a year old but the COPDX guidelines, like all clinical guidelines, need regular revision and updating in order to be relevant.

To that end, the Australian Lung Foundation has called for comment and feedback on the existing guidelines.

Benefit to patients with COPD?

Should the proposed package of legislation be approved, some of the federal government reforms will benefit COPD sufferers.
